A gorgeous summer evening relaxing on the back porch is quickly ruined by the presence of mosquitoes. While water features provide charming ambiance, they can also be a hot spot for mosquitoes. There are several kinds of mosquito repellents, but there are also plenty of home remedies that people claim work well.
Hopefully, one (or all!) of these tips will keep the little bugs away and save your summer!
Some people swear by this tip--keep a dryer sheet in your pocket while near mosquitoes to deter them! Dryer sheets contain chemicals that are renowned for repelling mosquitoes. So next time you head outdoors, don't forget the dryer sheets!
Several insects--including mosquitoes--avoid marigolds, lavender, catnip, and eucalyptus, so plant them in your garden! Certain herbs like rosemary and basil are well-known repellents, so have them in small pots spread around your patio or on your outdoor table.
If you are a fan of essential oils, use scents such as cedar, peppermint, and citronella (diluted with water) for a mix to spritz onto clothes or exterior furniture. Mosquitoes are also deterred by the smell of garlic, apple cider vinegar, and coffee! Singe some old coffee grounds with a lighter to create a pleasant fragrance (and repellent)!
Just like many bugs, mosquitoes are not a fan of smoke. Use your outdoor firepit or line your property or patio with tiki torches to create a fun atmosphere while keeping uninvited guests out!
Some experts say that wearing loose clothes can make it more difficult for mosquitoes to "find" your skin, whereas tight clothing could make it easier! And at this point, we are willing to try anything!
