Rustic Romantic Mountain Spa
This client loves natural hot springs and bringing groups of friends together for quality time. He initially learned about Alderwood Landscaping and Construction via a flyer on his front door. When deciding what to do with an unused portion of his yard, creating an artificial hot spring came up as an obvious solution. His ideal rustic and romantic mountain spa also included a gas ‘fire wall’. As the design process unfolded, he knew Alderwood had the expertise and knowledge necessary to build this unique amenity.
Moving and heating water was the key to the success of this project. We integrated the heated water feature with a unique ‘fire wall’ to help conceal the equipment. Serving a dual purpose, the firewall also generated plenty of heat to keep guests warm on cool evenings. Rustic flagstone pathways defined the space and surrounding walkways.
Since the existing slope was falling away from the house, the main challenge of this project was to build up the backside of the waterfall. A custom boulder outcropping and imported soil make up the man-made support slope. Just like our client had pictured, everything flowed together with a natural appearance.
In just 5 weeks, the grotto-style heated spa was ready for guests. Work was completed on time and on budget.
The artificial hot spring and surrounding amenities have become the focal point of the backyard and the client’s favorite place to relax. The project is a living sculpture with flowing water, growing plant material, and the illuminating ‘fire wall’.
Whether listening to the trickling waterfall, sipping wine next to the fire, or soaking his feet at the edge of the heated grotto, our client's outdoor living experience has gotten a serious upgrade.
