We recently transformed this flat yard in Kirkland, Washington, into a dynamic family oasis. Our clients, with active young kids passionate about gymnastics, basketball, and pickleball, desired a space that catered to their children’s energetic activities while providing a serene retreat. We designed a courtyard effect with structures away from the house but facing it, mirroring the home’s architecture to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
The project included a flex structure, currently used as a gymnastics studio and kids’ sleeper playhouse, which can easily be transformed into a flex or office space. To create a park-like setting, we incorporated specific trees and plants and preserved a sequoia tree as part of the landscaping. Screening and fencing between the street and the sports court provided privacy and a sense of enclosure, enhancing the feeling of a private oasis.
Considering Seattle’s frequent rain, we included a spacious, warm, covered area that offers shelter and comfort, allowing the family to enjoy their beautiful yard year-round. This Kirkland project showcases our commitment to creating customized, functional, and beautiful outdoor spaces that cater to the unique needs and desires of each family.
